Behold, I send [an] angel before thee, to keep thee by the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. (Exodus 23:20 ASV) and I will send [an] angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: (Exodus 33:2 ASV) It is said that the indefinite article does not exist in Hebrew and that you can guess it based on the context. But that can create problems in studying the Bible. Exodus 23:20 and Exodus 33:2 illustrate the problem. We read that a random Angel, ‘an Angel’, will accompany Moses to the promise land. In this case, the context does not say anything about who that Angel was to look like. That leaves the door open for speculation which can create new religion. It is also said that the ancient Greek does not have an indefinite article either but we cannot read about one ‘indefinite’ Angel in Luke 1:11 and Luke 2:9. Even though the Greek does not feature an indefinite article, it is said that a word for ‘a certain’ can be used to indicate the indefinite article but no such word appears in the Greek of the New Testament verses which I cite. And there appeared unto him [an] angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. (Luke 1:11 KJV) And, lo, [the] angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. (Luke 2:9 KJV) And [an] angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. (Luke 2:9 ASV) In the case of the verses cited in the Scriptures (Old Testament), the narrative is clear in that there was a specific Angel, not YHWH Himself, who was commissioned with the task to take the Israelites to the promise land (Exodus 23:20, 33:2). For mine angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: and I will cut them off. (Exodus 23:23 ASV) And now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine angel shall go before thee; nevertheless in the day when I visit, I will visit their sin upon them. (Exodus 32:34 ASV) I, Jesus, have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright, the morning star. Revelation 22:16 ASV Revelation 22:16 is one of the verses that identifies Jesus beyond His fleshy form (Jehovah is a man of war: Jehovah is his name. Exodus 15:3 ASV). Literally. f you quote together Exodus 23: 20-23, the idea of a random chosen Angel cannot hold, on the basis of context because verse 23 clearly indicates that YHWH claims ownership of the Angel in calling Him ‘mine Angel’. Exodus 32:34 further identifies the Angel as ‘mine Angel’ who was to go before Moses. Please, note Revelation 22:16 indicates that Jesus sent ‘mine Angel’ to Apostle John because there is only one such Angel in Heavens who is at the service of YHWH. If that does not ring any bells in your heart and mind, familiarize yourself with the importance of exact wording in the Bible as Jesus demonstrated that or emphasized it in Matthew 22:41-46. (41) Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, (42) saying, What think ye of the Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. (43) He saith unto them, How then doth David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying, (44) The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I put thine enemies underneath thy feet? (45) If David then calleth him Lord, how is he his son? (46) And no one was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions. Matthew 22:41-46 YHWH warned Moses to be careful with the Angel who was charged to accompany Him because this Angel carries His Name. Because the name of YHWH is in Him, YHWH told Moses that He is not as forgiven as YHWH. As the warning implies, when the commissioned Angel speaks, He speaks as if He is YHWH God Himself without the authority to override the word of YHWH (Jesus), just as Jesus does not have the authority to go beyond the word of God the Father (John 12:48-50 ASV). Do not provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgressions. For My name is in Him. (23) For My Angel shall go before you and bring you in to the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. And I will cut them off. (49) For I spake not from myself; but the Father that sent me, he hath given me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. (50) And I know that his commandment is life eternal: the things therefore which I speak, even as the Father hath said unto me, so I speak. John 12:48-50 ASV Note that Zechariah 1:12 indicates that Angel of YHWH is pleading the cause of Israel with a distinct YHWH. Hence, Zechariah shows that YHWH and Angel of YHWH are not the same Being. (11) And they answered [the] Angel of Jehovah who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sits still and is at rest. (12) And [the] Angel of Jehovah answered and said, O Jehovah of Hosts, until when will You not have pity on Jerusalem, and on the cities of Judah, against which You have abhorred these seventy years? (13) And Jehovah answered the angel who was talking with me with good words, words of comfort. (14) So the angel who was talking with me said to me, Cry out, saying, So says Jehovah of Hosts: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion, with a great jealousy. (15) And with great anger I am angered at the nations at ease; in that I was but a little angry, and they gave help for evil. Zechariah 1:11-15 LITV In the New Testament, Jude concurs with the Scriptures that even Archangel Michael is not the same as YHWH. For, Jude said that Archangel Michael did not blaspheme. Jesus was in turn accused of blasphemy. The relation is that Jesus cannot be the one who did not dare to blaspheme if He would have been Archangel Michael because Jesus was not careful not to blaspheme as He was ministering to the Jews. But Michael the archangel, when contending with the Devil, he argued about the body of Moses; he dared not bring a judgment of blasphemy, but said, "Let the Lord [YHWH] rebuke you!" Zech. 3:2 Jude 1:9 LITV. Therefore, from the foregoing, there has not been any unknown or random Angel ministering to men which would necessitate the use of an indefinite article in their ministry to Israel, especially in the case of Angel of YHWH. As such, be careful not to read an indefinite article when reading about the known Angels who were commissioned to minister to the Israelites and to Jesus.
