The announcement of the

conception of Jesus

The Timing of the Annunciation of the Conception

of Jesus

In Luke 1:26, the New Testament is crystal clear on the exact month when Angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she was chosen to carry a special Holy Being from the abode of God, a Holy Child who is the owner of the Israelites and of all men (Matthew 1:21). It was in the sixth month of the Jewish Calendar, a month which is not the same in the Julian, later Gregorian Calendar or any other calendar in use today. The ATS Bible Dictionary helps us place the Hebrew sixth month in the Julian Calendar which is August/September. Note, though, that the Jewish or the biblical day is a divided into an evening, sunset, night, and again morning, afternoon, and evening to start the next day. Note also that sunset is not the same as evening as the ATS makes it. Nevertheless, Mary conceived the Holy Child in the sixth month of the Jewish Calendar which begins in the end of March or beginning of April of the Julian or Gregorian Roman Calendar. Based upon the normal standard nine months gestation for birth of a human being, we can accurately calculate the month of birth of Jesus in the Julian Calendar, which is end of May to beginning of June in the Julian Calendar after the nine Julian months of pregnancy. Jesus could not have been born prematurely because the animal offerings in the rites of Moses were to be perfect. Again, anyone can stand behind that statement not because we were there, but based on the requirement of a perfect lamb for the sacrifice and common sense. If the Julian were the same as the Hebrew Calendar, and Jesus were conceived in the sixth month of the Julian Calendar, He would have been delivered, in keeping with the Julian annunciation month, on the sixteenth (6+9) month or in the fourth Julian month April, after the nine months pregnancy. If the sixteenth month of delivery would have been April in the Julian Calendar, that is 9 months very far away from December. But, again, the ‘sixth month’ time mentioned in the New Testament is in the Jewish Calendar. The religious Jewish calendar did not depart from the custom of beginning the year in Spring or the month of Abib or Nisan. As the ATS Bible Dictionary defines it, the ‘sixth month’ in the Jewish Calendar roughly falls on April, (or end of March), which roughly matches the beginning of the Jewish Calendar in the Julian Calendar. Again, if the first month of the Jewish Calendar falls on end of March towards the beginning of April in our Julian Calendar, the Jewish sixth month in the New Testament falls on end of August towards beginning of September in the Julian Calendar which was in use at the time of conception. After a nine-months long pregnancy from end of August towards beginning of September, Jesus was born in the tenth month after the ninth month of pregnancy. Therefore, the end of May towards beginning of June (on the tenth month of delivery, which is from the end of March towards beginning of April, the beginning of the Jewish month Nisan in the Julian Calendar, is the month of birth of Jesus. So, arithmetically, we look for a birth of Jesus in late May or early June. That is kind of a summer timeline which is very far from December! What if a month was added to the Jewish religious calendar year when Jesus was conceived? Still, December is very the unlikely month of birth of Jesus because we do not add or subtract an intercalary month in the Julian Calendar. Therefore, it is impossible that Jesus was born in December. John the Baptist was conceived sixth month before Jesus. So, end of December to beginning of January is more likely the Christmas month to celebrate the birth of John the Baptist (2 Timothy 4:1-4). Jesus does not ask us to celebrate His birth but only the last supper. If you are a believer and you absolutely love Christmas time, would you still keep Christmas as a celebration of the birth of Jesus or would you dismiss the arithmetical or mathematical timing of His birth that proves that Christmas has no biblical basis besides the fact that there is no command from Jesus to celebrate His birthday even if the exact date of birth was known?

(30) And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.  (31)  And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.  (32)  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:  (33)  and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Luke 1:30-33 ASV  (6) They therefore, being come together, asked him saying, Lord, is it at this time that thou restorest the kingdom to Israel? (7) And he said to them, It is not yours to know times or seasons, which the Father has placed in his own authority; (8) but ye will receive power, the Holy Spirit having come upon you, and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:6-8 Darby Did someone teach you that Jesus reigned already in secret, while we are still going on with life? If that is the case, how did that person know when Jesus has started reigning if, when it comes to the end of the world, nobody knows when but the Father? God does not do anything without revealing it (Amos 3:7). Had YHWH God changed His mind without telling Jesus? Surely the Lord Jehovah will do nothing, except he reveal his secret unto his servants the prophets.  (Amos 3:7 ASV) What did the prophets do with the secrets of God? Did they keep them to themselves? In any case, when the Disciples asked Jesus about the establishment of the kingdom of Israel, Jesus did not tell them it is something we cannot see (Acts 1:6-7). . For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. 1 Corinthians 4:20 Darby The kingdom of Israel is not the same as the kingdom of God. Jesus already has His throne in Heaven as does His our Father (Revelation 3:21). There was no invisible crowning of Jesus as King as another false religion is teaching. He was born King of the Jews not as a future King of the Jews. The Magi sought the King of the Jews (Matthew 2:2). Nathanael recognized Jesus as the King of Israel. Jesus was killed for being the King of the Jews. Pilate witnesses that Jesus is the King of Israel (Matthew 27:37, John 19:19). Jesus admits that He is the King of Israel, of the Jews (Matthew 27:11, John 19:21). The Jews rejected Jesus as YHWH their King (John 18:37, 19:15). Updated July 22, 2021
